I have been waiting to write this post for the last four years and I'm so happy that the moment is finally here. If you still worship at the altar of Trump, you will not like what I have to say. I am not pulling any punches. The time for a reckoning has finally arrived.
The last four years under the Trump regime have been an utter nightmare for most Americans. From my perspective I watched aghast as the country abandoned facts, data, logic, tradition, compassion, trust and all acceptable forms of reason and traded it all in for zealotry, insanity and wild off the wall conspiracy theories. I watched President Trump use his Twitter account the same way that Al Queda used planes on September 11th to torment and terrorize the American public. If you remain skeptical, let me point you to the 400,000 Americans who have now died from COVID. That is the only evidence required to show that Donald Trump was a far more effective terrorist than Osama Bin Laden could've ever dreamed of being.
I can already hear the teeth gnashing from some saying that the last paragraph was too provocative. Well, guess what? Too bad. The past four years have been nothing short of a veritable hell for the rest of the country. Your president never once met or exceeded a 50% approval rating and he never once won the popular vote. That means the majority of us have disliked and will continue to dislike him until the day we die as he never once, in even his best moment, rose to the opportunities that history afforded him. Time will not reduce the specter and the horror of Trump as it has with presidents like George W. Bush. In fact once Biden takes office and his staff have a chance to wrap their arms around things, I expect we'll be seeing quite a few new revelations about just how terrible of a human being Donald Trump actually was.
But I digress, for the last four years I have watched the Republican establishment run interference and prop up Donald Trump even at his least humane and least presidential moments. I have watched Democrats kowtow to him even in the face of his endless spree of crimes and abhorrent acts. I have watched so-called Conservatives lie to themselves in the worst sort of way and by extension attempt to convince us that Donald Trump is the avatar of God himself. Nothing of course could be further from the truth.
Even now I am on Gab watching Q-Anons lose their freaking minds over this insane 4chan troll shitfest that spun out of control years ago. These deeply disturbed people are still positing that Trump has actually taken control and the troops in DC are only there to reinforce his grasp on power. In addition other trolls and / or Q cult members on 4chan have actually posited that Trump has actually imprisoned Biden and switched faces with him so Biden's first term is actually Trumps second. Remember these are the same insane morons who also said that all top Democrats were arrested back in 2016 and replaced with clones... for reasons.
We should all truly and deeply hope that right along with the departure of Trump, we will see the departure of the deep pool of collective insanity that came with him. While I doubt we will be so lucky, I am going to allow myself the luxury of being hopeful today because I have to take at least one day off from being a pessimist.
With all that having been said, I think we should all step back, take a very deep breath and celebrate the newfound silence and peace that has returned to politics today. We got a small taste of this a few weeks back when Jack Dorsey finally found the balls to ban Trump from Twitter and it was absolutely glorious. Just think, we get to look forward to the next four years being a lot like this once we get past Trump's second impeachment trial.
I can't wait for the boring. I also can't wait to speak to you all again about more trivial tech related shit instead of actively trying to figure out whether the end of America is at hand. Most of all I can't wait for the reality that the biggest scandal of the Biden Administration will likely be something stupid like how he dared to wear a tan suit or some such nonsense. This is a vacation from insanity that we all have earned. I hope you all enjoy it at least half as much as I will.
